I formed the company in August 2006 so I could be my own boss and get a greater variety of work. I spent a long time in publishing and time working for corporate clients which was great but you don’t get to design identities or develop websites for different kinds of businesses and that is something I find exciting.
Being self-employed has enabled me to have direct contact with clients and their business’s which I find a lot more satisfying than designing for, say a global investment firm. You get to see how your work has affected someone else’s business.
I studied graphic design and lithographic printing after leaving school and continue to study to this day, recently finishing courses in applied visual thinking. A lot of design is done on a computer and I have been sitting in front on one for 10 years, so I have been ‘getting back to my roots’ and working more with a sketch book, which I find a much better medium for generating ideas.
Being a small company it is important to be adaptable, especially with the constant changes in web design. A lot of my clients don’t have large budgets so I am able to offer marketing services, which is very important because you the more you think about who your aiming at the more successful you are likely to be. Its no good building an amazing looking website if no one is going to find it. Its no good having a great logo if you don’t pay any attention to the words you use.
As a designer I organise information to make it as engaging and accessible to your audience as possible. If the information you give me is not very relevant to your audience the advert or website might not work as well. As an experienced designer who has worked in advertising agencies and trained in copywriting I can help you to identify the needs of your audience so your visual communications are more effective.
Through starting up my own business two years ago I am more than aware about how tight money can get and how hiring a designer is not high on a lot of peoples financial needs. Not every business needs a logo or has to have an exciting unique website to be successful. What a lot of business’s do need is a coherent, well organised and relevant form of self promotion, be it a business card or website.
This is something I always consider when being approached by a client so you don’t get sold something you don’t really need or can’t afford. As long as your expectations are realistic hiring a designer doesn’t have to be painful.

Radio Peckham is an online community radio station and I was asked to re-design their identity and make it more accessible and relevant to listeners in a culturally rich area of London.
